Three-Week Booking Film and TV Class

 

Joey Montenarello is a NY-based Casting Director who casts for film, television and theater. Joey has recently launched his own office, Montenarello Casting.  Before founding Montenarello Casting, Joey served as a Casting Director at Stewart/Whitley, where his expertise was instrumental in the company’s expansion into film and television. As the sole Casting Director leading these efforts, Joey was responsible for acquiring and overseeing new projects, laying the groundwork for his future success in the industry.

Prior to joining Stewart/Whitley, Joey spent six years as Associate Casting Director at Barden/Schnee Casting, where he cast numerous projects including the films Spotlight, Leave No Trace, Still Alice, Clemency, Timmy Failure, Pitch Perfect 2 & 3, The Girl on the Train, Sisters, Ma, The Upside, Galveston, The Boy Downstairs, Get on Up, Prisoners; as well as several Television and New Media projects including 13 Reasons Why (Pilot - Netflix), Jessica Jones (Season 1 - Netflix), The Last OG (Season 1 - TBS), Girlboss (Netflix), Good Girls Revolt (Amazon), Queen America (Facebook Watch),  Bonding (Netflix).

Joey is also an eight time Artios Award Nominee, having most recently been nominated in the Micro Budget category for his work on the film They/Them/Us.

Class Description & Format

Week 1

For your first week, you'll be in class with just Misha as she gets to know your work and prepares you for class with Joey. You'll present scenes that you choose live with a reader and receive feedback from Misha, and then get a recording of your work when you're done.

You'll also get a chance to ask Misha questions in a live Q&A and get hot seat coaching on your individual career status. Classes will take place at a rental studio in Manhattan.


Week 2

For Week 2, you'll be assigned comedic scenes, and Misha will facilitate the class while you work with Joey directly on your on-camera technique. 

Joey will watch your work and provide feedback, and he will answer questions about the process of auditioning for, and booking, professional film and television projects. Each class will have a Q&A with Joey and Misha, and you'll receive a recording of your work.


Week 3

For Week 3, you'll continue your on-camera class work with an assigned dramatic sceneJoey will watch your work and provide feedback, and you'll get a chance to ask questions about the industry and current casting market. Each class will have a Q&A with Joey and Misha, and you'll receive a recording of your work.

Misha Calvert

Director and Coach

 

Misha is an award-winning writer, director, and showrunner based in New York. She has created five digital series: STRUT (2018 Tribeca Film Festival) which campaigned for an Emmy in 2022, and ALL HAIL BETH, which landed in the top 25 on the iTunes soundtrack charts in 2019.

Her upcoming projects include FAULT, a drama set in the world of women’s pro tennis; PINK FLAGS, starring Raye and Sawyer Spielberg (Panavision New Filmmaker Grant); and CANDY, a musical short created in partnership with singer-songwriter Kate Eberstadt. She is also in post-production on a new comedy series she directed, THE FUCKBOY DIARIES. On the feature side, Misha is developing two narrative dramatic features.

Misha’s work is high-concept and visually driven, with a consistent focus on gender, mental health, power, and the female experience. She is also the founder of Vermilion, an educational arts organization supporting actors and multi-hyphenates.
